Shizuoka 2017 Single Bourbon Cask #037 Awaya

Shizuoka Distillery’s journey commenced in October 2016, crafting its inaugural whisky from a 2016 Single Bourbon Cask (#437) under the oversight of Gaia Flow ownership and the vision of its founder, Taiko Nakamura. Nestled beside the Nakakouchi River in the Tamagawa District of Oku-Shizu, in proximity to Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji, the distillery boasts a contemporary aesthetic curated by local resident American architect Derek Buston. Notably, a key highlight of the facility is its compact wash still, a relic from Japan’s revered Karuizawa distillery, contributing to the distillery’s distinction. The momentous debut of Shizuoka’s single malt occurred in 2020, introduced to the world as “Prologue K.”

Distilled on November 24, 2017, this whisky found its repose within a solitary ex-Bourbon cask labeled as #037. It remained in slumber until its bottling on February 12, 2021, culminating in a total of 244 bottles graced by its essence.
